01 / Branding

A brand is a decision, not a decoration.

Most rebrands begin with a logo and end with a confused market. We start with the commercial question underneath. Who are you for, what are you choosing not to be, and why should anyone change their mind? Then we design outward from the answer.

We build brands people understand, remember and trust.

What we do

  • Find the position a company can credibly own, and defend why competitors cannot copy it.
  • Turn that position into language a sales team, a product team and a founder all use the same way.
  • Design an identity that behaves as a system: in product, in print, in a pitch deck, at 16 pixels.
  • Hand over guidelines a marketing team can actually run without calling us every week.

Problems we solve

The situations clients arrive with

If more than one of these sounds familiar, they are probably the same problem seen from different seats.

  • 01

Nobody can explain what you do in one sentence

Three people in the company give three different answers. The website says one thing, sales says another, the product implies a third. The market splits the difference and remembers none of it.

  • 02

You look like the category, not like yourself

The identity was assembled from whatever the competitive set was doing two years ago. It passes, but it does not persuade, and it gives buyers no reason to prefer you at equal price.

  • 03

The brand falls apart in product

A beautiful identity that only works on a homepage hero. The moment it hits a dense table, a settings screen or an error state, the system has nothing to say.

  • 04

    Growth has outrun the story

The company you are now is not the company the brand was built for. New segments, new pricing, new geographies, and a brand still arguing for the old business.

Who this is for

  • Companies whose product has changed faster than the story around it
  • Founders entering a new segment, geography or price tier
  • Businesses consolidating several sub-brands or acquisitions into one architecture
  • Product teams who need a brand that survives contact with a real interface

Our approach

How we work on this

Four positions we hold consistently, including the ones that occasionally make a first meeting uncomfortable.

  • Start where the money is

Before any visual work we sit with the commercial reality: who buys, who nearly buys and walks, what the sales team apologises for. A brand that ignores the pipeline is decoration.

  • Choose something to be wrong about

Positioning that everyone agrees with instantly is positioning that says nothing. We push for a stance a competitor could plausibly argue against. That is what makes it ownable.

  • Design the hard cases first

We prototype the identity in a data table, a mobile nav, a legal footer and a three word app icon before we design a single hero. If it holds there, it holds anywhere.

  • Hand over a system, not a PDF

Guidelines that answer real questions, tokens engineering can consume, and templates a two person marketing team can run on a Tuesday afternoon.

Process

Six stages, each a decision point

Every stage produces something you could act on if you stopped there. That is deliberate. It keeps the engagement honest.

  1. 01

    Interrogate

Stakeholder interviews, customer conversations, sales call listening, competitive and category audit. We are looking for the gap between what you say and what the market hears.

    Outputs

    • Stakeholder & customer findings
    • Category and competitor audit
    • Brand problem statement
  2. 02

    Position

We define the audience, the frame of reference, the point of difference and the reasons to believe, then pressure test each against evidence rather than preference.

    Outputs

    • Positioning platform
    • Audience & segment map
    • Reasons to believe
  3. 03

    Articulate

Narrative, naming conventions, messaging hierarchy and tone. The words come before the visuals because the visuals are an argument about the words.

    Outputs

    • Brand narrative
    • Messaging hierarchy
    • Voice & tone guide
  4. 04

    Design

Identity routes explored against the hardest applications, not the easiest. We narrow to one direction and build it out across the touchpoints that carry the most weight.

    Outputs

    • Identity routes
    • Chosen direction
    • Core applications
  5. 05

    Systemise

Tokens, components, layout rules, motion principles and the editorial standards that keep everything consistent as the team scales.

    Outputs

    • Design tokens
    • Component library
    • Brand guidelines
  6. 06

    Launch

Rollout planning, go to market support, team training and the governance model that decides who can change what. Brands decay through a thousand small exceptions.

    Outputs

    • Rollout & launch plan
    • Team enablement
    • Governance model

What changes as a result

  • One sentence

    Consistent explanation

Sales, product and marketing describing the business the same way.

  • Faster

    Marketing throughput

Templates and tokens remove the blank page tax on every new asset.

  • Lower

    Design debt

One system instead of a decade of one off files and forked brand assets.

In their words

What clients say after the work ships.

FAQ

About branding engagements

Occasionally, when a positioning platform already exists and holds up under questioning. If it does not, we will say so. Designing an identity for an unresolved position produces work that gets revised within a year.
