04 / Product Strategy
Great products start with better problems.
Most roadmaps are a list of obligations rather than a thesis. We work upstream of that: research the market and the customer, diagnose what is really wrong, decide what to build next, and plan how it goes to market.

We help you decide what to build, and what to stop building.
What we do
- Run user research and market research to establish what is actually happening, not what the room believes.
- Diagnose an existing product with an evidence based UX audit before anyone proposes a redesign.
- Decide the next twelve months: what to build, what to fix, what to sunset.
- Build the go to market strategy, including positioning, pricing narrative, launch plan and the metrics that will tell you it worked.
Problems we solve
The situations clients arrive with
If more than one of these sounds familiar, they are probably the same problem seen from different seats.

- 01
The roadmap is a list of requests
Every item is traceable to a customer or an executive. None of them add up to a thesis about where the product is going.
- 02
Metrics moved and nobody knows why
Analytics show the drop but not the reason. The funnel measures screens. The problem lives between them.
- 03
A redesign is being proposed as the answer to everything
Redesigns are the most expensive available hypothesis. Often two thirds of the value sits in structural fixes that do not require starting over.
- 04
The product is good and the launch was quiet
Nobody owned go to market. Positioning, pricing narrative, launch sequencing and sales enablement were treated as marketing's problem after the fact.
Who this is for
- Leadership teams deciding whether to redesign, rebuild or repair
- Founders preparing to enter a new market or launch a new product line
- Product teams whose metrics have plateaued without an obvious cause
- Businesses whose customer experience spans product, service and operations

Our approach
How we work on this
Four positions we hold consistently, including the ones that occasionally make a first meeting uncomfortable.
Evidence over seniority
Every finding is traceable to something observable: a recorded session, an analytics cohort, a support theme, a failed task. Findings you cannot trace are opinions with confidence.
Severity is commercial, not aesthetic
We rate problems by what they cost, in abandoned tasks, support contacts, extended sales cycles and churn, so the fix list is ordered by consequence.
Decide what to stop
Most portfolios carry features that survive because nobody has a mechanism for ending them. Naming what to sunset is harder to agree than building something new, and usually worth more.
Go to market is part of the product
How it is positioned, priced, launched and sold changes what should be built. Treating it as a downstream marketing task is how good products launch quietly.
Process
Six stages, each a decision point
Every stage produces something you could act on if you stopped there. That is deliberate. It keeps the engagement honest.
- 01
Frame
Agree the business questions the work must answer, the journeys in scope, and what evidence already exists inside the organisation.
Outputs
- Scope & questions
- Evidence inventory
- Success criteria
- 02
Research
User research, market and competitive analysis, analytics review and support ticket clustering. We look at what people do before we ask them what they think.
Outputs
- User research findings
- Market & competitor view
- Behavioural analysis
- 03
Diagnose
UX audit and root cause analysis, with findings scored for severity and commercial impact. This is the part that ends the internal argument.
Outputs
- UX audit findings
- Severity & impact matrix
- Customer journey map
- 04
Decide
The thesis: which problem the product solves next, what gets built, what gets fixed, what gets sunset, and what success will look like.
Outputs
- Product strategy
- Prioritised roadmap
- Success metrics
- 05
Go to market
Positioning, pricing narrative, launch sequencing, sales enablement and the measurement plan that tells you whether it landed.
Outputs
- Go-to-market plan
- Positioning & messaging
- Launch measurement
- 06
Enable
Working sessions with the teams who will implement, plus the templates, standards and review rituals that keep the improvement from eroding.
Outputs
- Team working sessions
- Standards & checklists
- Review cadence

FAQ
About product strategy engagements
A prioritised set of findings with evidence attached, a root cause analysis, a customer journey map, and a sequenced remediation plan with effort and impact estimates. We also run a working session so the team can interrogate the findings rather than receive them.
